About Electric Butterfly

Since 1995, Electric Butterfly has built a solid reputation as one of the most productive, reliable, and innovative software and web development firms in the industry. Based in Los Angeles, California, the award-winning Electric Butterfly has worked with such high-profile clients as Hallmark Channel, United Airlines, Hertz, Hilton, Warner Bros. Records, Capitol Records, MusicPlayer.com, Barry Levinson (Director of "Rain Man"), Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Academy, and many others.

"At its core, web development is a service oriented business. Building and maintaining the client relationship has always been our top priority," says Dave Wooldridge, CEO & Chief Technology Officer of Electric Butterfly. "Our continued growth and success stems from avoiding 'cookie-cutter' formulas and focusing on custom turn-key solutions that exceed our clients' needs through a diverse range of services from website strategy and design to online web applications, e-commerce, and software development."

In 1997, Electric Butterfly launched a "how-to" site called Web Design Secrets, offering free monthly tutorials for web developers long before the debuts of rival sites such as WebReview.com and Builder.com. Attracting thousands of visitors each month, Web Design Secrets remained a popular outlet for helpful web design tips and tricks until its last article was published in late 1998.

1997 also saw the release of Electric Butterfly's first software product, ebGATE. Utilizing the company's web development experience, Electric Butterfly launched a software division to produce unique web tools and applications. ebGATE was the first client-side password protection solution available in both JavaScript and Java versions. After being followed by dozens of imitators, ebGATE is still one of the most popular JavaScript password protection scripts available and is currently used by thousands of websites around the world.

In 1999, Electric Butterfly's website design for the software company, SkyLine Tools Imaging, was honored by Delphi Informant's Readers Choice Awards as one of the Top 7 Delphi Vendor Websites. The year 2000 brought Electric Butterfly into the spotlight once again with a prestigious PMA Reggie Gold Award for Best Interactive Promotion for Hallmark Channel's "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" website. The continued relationship between Electric Butterfly and Hallmark Channel was then praised in 2001 with a CTAM Silver Mark Award for their "Hound of the Baskervilles" website.

Electric Butterfly's software division continued to develop popular Java solutions for web developers such as ebVIEW and Lighthouse. The concept behind the original Java-based Lighthouse served as the genesis for the evolved Macintosh version of Lighthouse released in 2000.

2001 saw the release of Stimulus, which has become a shareware favorite among Mac users. Electric Butterfly then entered the Mac developer tools market with UniHelp, a cross-platform help engine for REALbasic. UniHelp won the 2002 Cubie Award for Best Development Aid and has been featured extensively in REALbasic Developer magazine.

2004 saw the highly anticipated release of HelpLogic, which was honored as the winner of the 2004 REALbasic Design Award for Best Developer Tool. Electric Butterfly also introduced a new collection of REALbasic components called the Web Services Library, unveiling WSL-Amazon as the first release in that series. WSL-Amazon was showcased by REAL Software at the prestigious DEMO@15 show and went on to win the 2005 REALbasic Design Award for Best Developer Tool.

In 2005, while continuing to run Electric Butterfly, CEO Dave Wooldridge partnered with acclaimed Mac author, Dave Mark, to launch a new publishing company called SpiderWorks, specializing in how-to technology guides for developers (available online as eBooks and printed softcover editions).
